2010 MOTUTAPU CAMP

It’s time for Room 28 and Syndicate D to go on camp and who knows what our adventures will be like!

DAY 1

on May the 3rd ROOM 28 and SYNDICATE D go to Motutapu Island. I got up nice and early ready and packed for camp. It took us a 15 minute drive to get to the wharf at Half Moon Bay. Me and my dad started walking over to the rest of the people. My dad also came because he was a group parent for my group. We had to wait 20 minutes until we were allowed on the ferry. By that time we were on the ferry at 9.30. We stopped at Rangitoto Island and had to walk to Motutapu and that took us an hour and a half walk. Finally we were at the campsite and we got to eat our lunch.

Our first activity was Sailing, it was cool because I got to go with Kyle and Matthew and we were supposed to sail out to the buoy touch it and come back except we went past the buoy and we couldn’t turn around and we started laughing and eventually we turned around and got back safely. Our next activity was Rafting. I thought rafting was OK but I didn’t really like it. We made one out of bamboo, drums and rope. Our team beat the other team because as soon as the other team put there raft in the water it broke so we won. It was time for tea and we had Nachos. They were disgusting and so was the dessert. After dinner we had hall activities. I couldn’t do well in any of the games because they were hard. After was bedtime.

DAY 2

In the morning we woke up and had brekky as always. The first activity was Rock Climbing and I climbed every single wall, I even did one blindfolded. I was just about to do the overhang wall but we had to pack up and go to our next activity which was the Confidence Course. The CC was not the coolest activity and no one liked it and it was boring so I don’t really want to talk about it and we kept losing because we didn’t get the idea. Man I couldn’t wait to do Kayaking because I love doing it. First we got in our kayaks and paddled out to Caleb (Instructor) who kept moving so we got used to the kayak. 10 mins later we played Kayak Soccer where you had to hit Caleb’s kayak with a bouncy ball and we won. Then it was time for our last activity High Ropes – and I hate heights! For the first one when I got to the top I never wanted to let go from the pole so I sucked my gut in and started to walk to half way then I just jumped off. Man I was SCARED!!! I said to myself I’ll only be here once so make the most of it. So I did another one and I finished it and I was so proud of myself. Later on we had tea and dessert as usual. Our night time activity was Spotlight and I always got found. Then I just went to bed.

DAY 3

We had brekky and then went on our first activity Gun Walk.

Before we did the walk we watched a movie about a special gun on Motutapu because we were going to see where the gun was and learn about it.

Now it was time for another walk up to the gun place. I almost stepped in poop twice! Finally we got up to the gun place. The instructor took us down into the dark tunnel which killed. 30 minutes after we mucked around for a bit and then we headed back to our next activity Archery. Man I was pretty excited about doing it, the highest score was 15/20 but I didn’t get in the finals because I got 12/20. Troll (instructor) showed us his bow and arrow it was awesome and he got 4 bullseyes in a row. 3rd activity for the day was Survivor. I got really muddy but it was worth it and we came last, but I still had a lot of fun. Last activity for camp was Orienteering. Kyle and Josh plus me worked together we found all the markers but we found some extra ones so we got confused. So that didn’t go so well.

Then we had dinner and did the frightening Burma Trail. I wasn’t really scared. After that we went straight to bed.

DAY 4

Morning time, because we did every single activity we got to choose 3 which we wanted to do. My first one was Sailing with Kyle. We played pirates where you soak sponges and chuck them at each other. After that it was just free time. My 2nd one was Kayaking. She made us travel through the rocks and heaps of people kept getting stuck then we played Kayak Soccer. 3rd choice was Archery and that was really fun and our team got 3rd place and I tied a record 17/20. After that we had dinner and then it was bedtime whenever you wanted to.

DAY 5

On Friday we cleaned up it was a really fun week on camp i wish i had the oppertunitie to go there again, but then i made the most of camp so i was pretty proud of myself walked back to the Ferry and went HOME!

  3. Great, but in the paragraph DAY 3 you said that the Burma Trail was frightening, and then you said that you weren't very scared.
    What do you mean?
